Legislating Iran is far easier than solving our internal problems.

Wouldn’t you know it? Now American Senators and Congressmen suddenly feel that they are experts on how to deal with the Iranian Government and the flap over the recent Iranian election. The American Legislature with its contingent of children who take pride and pleasure in saying “NO” to any piece of legislation coming from the Democratic side of the aisle and the contingent that is always searching for ways in which to obstruct the current President. Now they are on a campaign to “chastise” Iran and its government.

So where is the leadership? Where is VP Joe Biden, President of the Senate? Where is Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House? Where are Steny Hoyer and Harry Reid? Where are those who would reel in these sudden “experts in foreign relations”? Where are the leaders who will stand up and inform these children that their job is to LEGISLATE America not Iran. Why is the American taxpayer paying Congressmen and Senators to pass resolutions about the Government of Iran when many of our systems and institutions are on the verge of failure? Why doesn’t the Democratic leadership stand up to these individuals who are suddenly distracted by goings-on in Iran and properly inform them of their responsibilities to the American taxpayer who is paying them to solve the problems of our financial, energy, insurance, medical, employment, and real estate systems? Why doesn’t the Democratic leadership inform them that their focus should be in these areas and not Iran?

Why is the American taxpayer watching John McCain, Lindsey Graham, Kit Bond, Eric Cantor, etc, attack President Obama over the Iran election flap? Why is the American Taxpayer watching Legislators pass legislation concerning this flap? These are the same Legislators who don’t seem to be able to come together and pass a single suitable piece of legislation that will help solve our banking, real estate, insurance, and employment problems. They seem to be very adept at passing legislation about other countries where they have no legislative responsibility. The Democratic leadership in congress should never have allowed the resolutions about Iran to be entertained on the floors of either house until our legislators demonstrate that they can pass legislation that will help solve our country’s problems.

The lack of direction of the Republican Party is seriously affecting the ability of the Democratic Party to lead and legislate in a time when we need seriously focused attention and legislation on the pressing issues that confront our nation. The Republican Party continually seeks a cause célèbre or cause du jour in attempts to regain credibility even if it happens on a moment-by-moment basis. The continual jumping from cause-to-cause was the same tactic that destroyed the McCain presidential campaign but the Republican Party continues to employ this tactic in an attempt to find something to sink its teeth into.

The Democratic Party in the legislature demonstrates on a daily basis that it doesn’t have the ability to lead as these Republicans have been running amok since the start of the 111th Congress. It is not acceptable to the American Taxpayer for its legislators to successfully caucus and pass legislation about other countries when they can’t figure out how to pass legislation that will address the problems we are facing in this country. The distractions of our Legislators involving themselves in the internal affairs of other nations are not acceptable. It is obvious that it must be easier for our Legislators to address issues in Iran and North Korea than it is to deal with the overwhelming and complex problems that face our nation. Our legislators need to know what their roles and responsibilities are and our Legislative leaders need to let members of congress know they should focus their attention on solving our internal problems and leave the affairs of other nations to our executive branch regardless of their opinions on the ability of the individuals who fill those roles. The evaluation of how well they perform their duties is the responsibility of the American Electorate and not Congress as Congress itself is also evaluated by this same Electorate.
